Damage Survey
A damage survey is an assessment of a vessel after an incident to determine the extent and cause of damage. It includes inspecting affected areas, documenting findings, and evaluating repair needs.
The survey can support insurance claims or guide repair work. A detailed report is provided with photos and recommendations.
Pre-purchase Survey
A pre-purchase survey is a detailed inspection of a vessel to assess its condition, safety, and overall interior and exterior condition. It covers the hull, structure, systems, and machinery.
This survey is the most common type of survey and helps prospective buyers make informed decisions before committing to a purchase. A written report with findings and recommendations is provided. Haul-out is recommended for a full pre-purchase survey.
Condition Survey
A condition survey evaluates the overall state of a vessel, including its structure, systems, and machinery. It helps identify potential issues or maintenance needs, ensuring the boat is in good working order.
This survey is typically carried out annually on commercial vessels and every 5 years on leisure vessels. A comprehensive report with findings and recommendations is provided.
Insurance Survey
An insurance survey is a thorough inspection of your vessel to evaluate its condition, safety, and market value. A qualified surveyor will assess the structure, systems, and onboard equipment, then provide a detailed report.
This helps insurers determine appropriate coverage, premiums, and risk levels. You may be asked to arrange a survey by your insurer, or it may be commissioned directly by the insurance company.
Valuation Survey
A valuation survey determines the current market value of a vessel based on its age, condition, equipment, and market trends. This survey is typically used for insurance, financing, or sale purposes.
It provides a detailed report outlining the vessel’s worth, considering both its physical condition and market factors.
Hull Survey
A hull-only survey focuses exclusively on assessing the condition of a vessel’s hull, including its structural integrity, fittings, and underwater components. It does not include systems, rigging, or interior inspections.
This type of survey is often requested when a full inspection isn’t required, such as for limited insurance updates or specific maintenance checks.
Machinery Survey
A machinery only or engine survey is a detailed inspection of a vessel’s propulsion system and related mechanical components. This includes the main engine(s), gearbox, generator(s), fuel systems, exhaust, cooling systems, and controls.
The survey assesses overall condition, performance, and signs of wear or potential failure. It’s often required for insurance, pre-purchase evaluations, or troubleshooting mechanical issues.
Electronic Instruments
An electronics only survey focuses on the condition and functionality of a vessel’s navigational and communication equipment. This includes modern systems like chart plotters, radar, AIS, autopilots, depth sounders, and VHF radios.
The survey checks for proper installation, operation, software updates, and integration between systems. It’s increasingly important given the complexity and value of modern marine electronics.
Oil Analysis
We facilitate professional lube oil analysis for marine vessels, helping you monitor the health of your equipment. Our Engineers are certified Machine Lubricant Analysts, to MLA Level 1; ISO 18436-4, by the International Council for Machinery Lubrication (ICML).
From sample collection to lab result interpretation, we deliver clear, practical insights. Oil analysis goes beyond just checking the oil—it’s a powerful tool for diagnosing the internal condition of your machinery.
